TAKE ACTION: Congress must #SanctionTurkey - Pétition
There's a bill that's been introduced, S. 2641, the Promoting American National Security and Preventing the Resurgence of ISIS Act of 2019. The bill:
- condemns Turkey's actions in Syria, its treatment of the Kurds, and demands that Turkey recall its troops
- restricts the sale of defense articles, services or technology to Turkey if they could be used by the Turkish Armed Forces in Syria
- declares that the U.S. should oppose any loans from international financial institution that would benefit the Government of Turkey
- requires the State Department to produce a report analyzing Turkey's commitment to NATO
- imposes sanctions on senior Turkish government officials
- imposes other sanctions, including sanctions for Turkey's acquisition of the S–400 air and missile defense system from Russia
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has already passed this critical bill. Now it's time to push for a full Senate vote. Failure to bring this to a Senate vote encourages Turkey to continue to act with impunity and take fundamentally destabilizing actions such as weaponizing migrants and trying to overwhelm Greece’s borders.
